JOB SUMMARY

HMI is actively seeking a laboratory engineer to design, implement, and test novel electromechanical, electromagnetic, optical, and acoustical sensors for subsea robotic perception. The candidate will work closely with perception algorithm researchers to design, set up and automate experiments and testing protocols to calibrate and evaluate the sensors and interpret the data.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Physics
  • 3-5 years of applicable work experience. 
  • Skilled with use of electronic test equipment and other laboratory instruments.
  • Experience with computer control of laboratory instruments using Python, MATLAB, LabView or similar software.
  • Experience analyzing data using statistical data analysis methods, writing detailed technical reports on characterization results, and providing recommendations for next actions.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Physics
  • Knowledge of basic optics and lens parameters
  • Experience with underwater acoustic sensors
  • Experience creating and managing work plans
  • Experience writing sensor interfaces in with ROS

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing some duties of this job, the employee may be required to travel domestically and internationally. This role may also require exposure to a variety of construction and/or offshore platform job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. 

The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.
